Linda L. Long is a lifelong educator, accomplished musician, and dedicated community volunteer whose career and life journey reflect remarkable service in both the arts and education. Born and raised in Coon Rapids, Iowa, she developed an early love for music and leadership—serving as a pianist for her school’s vocal and instrumental programs, cheerleader, drama club participant, and editor of both the student newspaper and yearbook.

After earning her degree in elementary education from Simpson College and Drake University, Linda devoted 32 years to teaching, including 26 years leading Gifted & Talented programs in Newton, Iowa. Her work in curriculum development brought national recognition, with several programs published by the Structure of Intellect Learning Program, and she was honored as Iowa’s State Teacher of the Year in 1991. Linda served on the State of Iowa Board of Gifted & Talented, chaired the G&T State Conference, and presented at national and international education events, sharing her passion for fostering exceptional learning environments.

Alongside her educational career, Linda maintained a rich life in music, teaching piano privately and serving on arts boards including the Augusta Symphony, the Augusta Opera Guild, and the Josef Hoffman International Piano Competition. Her volunteerism extended to the United Methodist Church, Library Boards, and cultural organizations in every community where she lived.

Linda has called many places home—from Iowa to Tennessee, Indiana, South Carolina, Colorado, Hawaii, and now Stillwater, Minnesota—always immersing herself in local culture, music, and service. Since 2015, she has been an active member of the Stillwater community, serving on the Library Foundation Board and the St. Croix Valley Opera Board, where she champions programs that celebrate music and the arts.

An avid reader, writer, golfer, and retired tennis player, Linda continues to share her love of music through piano performance. She counts her family, lifelong friends, good health, and abundant opportunities as her greatest blessings, living her life with gratitude, energy, and creativity.
