Gary Briggle, stage director/singer-actor, has had a distinguished career in opera and music-theatre for over 45 years. His first professional directing assignment was THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE, with Seaside Music Theatre, in 1980. This fall he will stage his 21st production of that Gilbert and Sullivan masterpiece for GSVLOC!
He was a favorite with Dayton Opera, where he enjoyed directing IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA during the course of his 20-year affiliation with the company. His work has graced the stages of Sacramento Opera, Nevada Opera, Lyric Opera Cleveland, Florida Repertory Theatre, Skylight Opera Theater, The Ordway Center, Lyric Opera of the North, Fargo-Moorhead Opera, Midwest Opera Theatre, The National Theatre of Hungary/Miskolc, and at many universities and conservatories, including The University of Iowa, where he was head of the Opera Department.
Gary was awarded the prestigious Carbonell Award for PATIENCE, and is currently serving as interim artistic director of Skylark Opera Theatre, for whom he has recently staged AMAHL AND THE NIGHT VISITORS and his own adaptation of Tchaikovsky’s EUGENE ONEGIN.
