John David De Haan is a native of Kansas and a graduate of Union College and of the U of Nebraska. John is currently on the voice and opera faculty at U of M’s School of Music in Minneapolis. His students have been selected by highly regarded young artist training programs and have successfully competed on all levels of the Met Opera National Council Auditions. Many of his students enjoy successful operatic, concert, and recording careers.

As a performer, John is an internationally acclaimed heroic tenor, with experience with companies including the Glimmerglass Opera, Pacific Opera Victoria, Teatro Real Opera Orchestra in Madrid, L’Opera Montreal, and the Latvian National Symphony. John was a principal artist with the Deutsche Oper Berlin for four years. Prior to undertaking the heroic tenor repertory, he appeared with leading opera companies in lyric roles including the San Francisco Opera, the Greater Miami Opera, the Santa Fe Opera, and New Orleans Opera.
