Jennifer Feinstein (OOTR 2022)
Mezzo-Soprano
Mezzo-soprano Jennifer Feinstein has been likened by the Los Angeles Times to "a young Horne, so rich is her mezzo and so full of spark was she on stage.” She returns to the Ensemble of the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe for the 21/22 season where she will be seen in a new production of Emmerich Kálmán’s Grafin Mariza (Manja) directed by Alexandra Frankmann and conducted by Georg Fritzch. Other assignments in Karlsruhe this season include revivals of Gianni Schicchi (La Ciesca), Don Giovanni (Donna Elvira), Ariadne auf Naxos (Prima Donna), and Roberto Devereux (Sara).
Last season in Karlsruhe she reprised Roberto Devereux (Sara), Les contes d'Hoffmann (Giulietta & Stella), Don Giovanni (Donna Elvira), and Il barbiere di Siviglia (Berta). Her other assignments in Karlsruhe have included Les contes d'Hoffmann (Giulietta), a new production of Don Giovanni (Donna Elvira) directed by Floris Visser, and a revival of Roberto Devereux (Sara). Additionally, she sang the American premiere of Korngold’s Das Wunder der Heliane (Die Botin) at Bard Summerscape Festival. In her first season in the Ensemble, she debuted as Giovanna Seymour in Anna Bolena, while also performing Sara (Roberto Devereux), Dritte Magd (Elektra), Stella (Les contes d'Hoffmann), and The Owl (The Cunning Little Vixen).
Becoming increasingly coveted for her portrayals of the dramatic mezzo repertoire, Ms. Feinstein made two role debuts in the 2017/18 season: Laura in La Gioconda with the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck, and Preziosilla in La forza del Destino with Theater Augsburg. Other recent engagements include her theater and role debut as Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana with Theater Münster (later also at Schleswig-Holsteinisches Landestheater), covering Amneris in Aida for the Pacific Symphony, performing with Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern as Olga (Eugene Onegin) and Maddalena (Rigoletto) singing title role of Carmen and Adalgisia (Norma) with St. Petersburg Opera, and joining the roster of Teatro dell'Opera di Roma to cover Agave in Mario Martone's new production of Hans Werner Henze's The Bassarids. She also performed the title role in Bizet's Djamileh for Beethoven Easter Festival, the recording of which was commercially released in 2018.
Career operatic highlights include appearances with Spoleto Festival USA, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Opera Orchestra of New York, Sarasota Opera, Opera Memphis, Chautauqua Opera, Bard Summerscape Festival, and the Caramoor Festival. She has also been seen on the concert stage in Verdi's Requiem, Beethoven Symphony No. 9, Mahler's Symphony No. 2, and Prokoviev's Alexander Nevsky, with such orchestras as the Richmond Symphony, Orchestra at St. Luke's, American Symphony Orchestra, Oratorio Society of New York, Symphoria!, and the Orchestra Sinfonica di Giuseppe Verdi in Milan.
Jennifer Feinstein was a National Semi-finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, and has received awards from the Marilyn Horne Foundation Competition, Opera Index, and Gerda Lissner Competitions. She received both her Master of Music and Bachelor of Music degrees from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, a Master of Music from the Yale University School of Music and was a Fellow at the Music Academy of the West.
