Obed Floan, Master of Music and one of SCVO’s founders as well as its current executive director, is an accomplished Heldentenor and vocal instructor. Obed runs a vocal studio alongside his wife Megan, which for 15 years has helped students enter prestigious college, university, and young artist programs as well as professional roles in both opera and Broadway productions. Obed’s career as an opera singer met with rave reviews for his “unforced power, purity of tone,” “genuine helden sound,” and “voice of spun gold”. His performance credits include work with Des Moines Metro Opera, the Wagner Intensive, Minnesota Opera, and Carnegie Hall. Obed specializes in Wagnerian voices and has achieved recognition for this work, including being one of 16 singers selected for the 2010 Lauritz Melchior International Singing Competition, 2012 and 2013 Wagner Society of New York Encouragement grants, and a 2015 win of the Gerda Lissner Foundation International Vocal Competition—Wagner Division.
